The Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition is looking for qualified judges! In 2012 a philanthropist named Rick Sontag donated sufficient money to endow a business competition at the University of Nevada Reno. The Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition has become a well-regarded program and the winning team takes home $50,000 cash. Recently, our team welcomed Saul Baublys to the entrepreneurial team as a part-time intern. Saul is a student at the University of Nevada, Reno and is pursuing his degree in Computer Science and Engineering. He is not only an out-going engineer but an entrepreneur at heart and we are excited to have his help this Spring! Startup Company of the Month
Our Startup of the Month in December is Sugar Love Chocolates, who doesn’t LOVE chocolate?The company was founded by chocolatier Krysta Bea Jackson, who interned on the entrepreneurial team at EDAWN for some time and has been a crucial asset in the startup community (spearheading Startup Weekend Reno & is also a past 1 Million Cups organizer). This month, Krysta launched a Kickstarter campaign and is seeking to reach or exceed her goal of $ 4,000 to order custom two-piece chocolate boxes so that she can expand into the wedding market. Then you’re in luck: TedxUniversityofNevada is back, and they’ve got inspiration to spare.
TEDxUniversityofNevada has a line-up filled with dynamic speakers and performers from our region and beyond. Set for Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, the event will take place in the Grand Theatre at the Grand Sierra Resort. General admission is $100 and includes all TEDx talks and performances, a boxed lunch and refreshments. If you’re student, you’re in luck.
